James' concerns over the deferential treatment of affluent congregants rings all too true in today's churches.  As the season where we begin to talk about stewardship approaches, what should we be thinking about in regards to what real generosity means?

The Hebrew Bible has several notions about what time represented the "best of times" in Jewish history.  Two major ideas: the time in the wilderness following the exile, and the time of David and Solomon.  Jesus used that sentimentality to instruct his followers about what his role in our lives was to be.

As our children head back to school, what do we really hope and pray for when it comes to their growth and development?  And what does the Bible say about what it means to be great and wise?

A confusing, troubling passage (the death of Uzzah and the punishment of Michal in 2 Samuel) gets interpreted in two very different ways by scholars.  Which interpretation will Fr. Rob use in his sermon?

While we can not always understand why God does not acquiesce to our prayers sometimes, we can experience what God is doing those times instead.

This sermon has an admittedly inflammatory title, especially for a sermon on Gun Violence Awareness Sunday, but Fr. Rob is speaking as a progressive and advocate for eliminating gun violence, especially in our schools.  In this case, he is talking about four things he sees liberal, progressive advocates opposed to the proliferation of guns and gun violence in our society sometimes making as they seek to advance their cause.  Those four things are

1. basic ignorance about firearms
2. unrealistic, intractable stances on the issues
3. a tendency to demonize their ideological opponents
4. a failure to vote

He concludes with comments towards clergy who may be hesitant to engage in the issue of guns and our society in their home parishes.

This sermon has already received a lot of feedback, some critical, some positive, and Fr. Rob welcomes conversation about the issued raised in it.

Why get to know God?  Or rather, why share our own knowledge of God with people outside the Church?  Is it the promise of salvation, or something more close to home?

"Who will roll away the stone from the tomb for us?"  Mary and the other women head for Jesus' tomb, but are already anticipating failure.  We try to find God, but often place obstacles in our own way, anticipating our own failures.
